them peepers

My Brainworm order - aka my reward for writing and then biting the bullet and editing my horrors - arrived today! I busted out the gluesticks, put on a bunch of songs from the Glee soundtrack, and got to work.

Beatrix's chips are all changed out now. It's really hard for my camera to pick up the muted colors of some of them with Beatrix's wildly bright hair overtaking all, but she has moss green, wheat, mango, and olive Brainworm chips now. The moss green and wheat look similar in these pictures but not so similar in real life. The wheat ones are more gray than you'd imagine. I might someday get a set of toffee ones instead. I like her so much in mustard yellow, that's why I got the yellow chips for her!

Plummery got the lilac set - I switched out her front-facing stock blue chips. I just found that I never liked leaving her eyes on the blue set. They are pretty with her red hair, so I'm not sure why. I'm not sure how I feel about the lilac, either, though. For now I'm leaving them, but I might get a different blue set instead. It's nice to know I can switch all these chips out again if I feel like it. You never know what you're going to wind up liking or not.

Aury is being left completely stock. She's perfect. I feel like I would really miss her greens and blues. Hopefully she doesn't feel left out.

felt love

The other day I bought a pack of pastel felt squares and also a pack of brown felt squares from ilovefelt88 on Etsy. I just cannot find a nice variety of colors in my local craft stores - only the Crayola-bright shades. My felt storage drawers are out of control already (I use felt so often in applique!) so I can tell I'm going to have to rearrange some stuff to make room for these lovelies!

many cushions, a few pins

Having a little bit of a pincushion mania... I always have loads of bottlecaps so I can make up little bottlecap pincushions when the mood takes me.

And Aimee Ray posted a tutorial on how to make the cute little mushroom pincushions I love so much, so I gave it a go!

I daresay blue is my least favorite color and that also this may be quite bigger than Aimee's, but I had the circles pre-cut for a bottlecap pincushion so I was able to save a little bit of time cutting them out and using what I already had. I think it was fun to do, but that hers are cuter by default! And I don't want to lose a needle in this so I will probably only use it for stick pins and continue using little bottlecap pincushions for my embroidery needles.

Lastly, here's a quick pic of my girls in pink. You can see that my walls are an atrocious green (frankly very close to Simply Peppermint's hair but a little lighter), which goes perfectly with pink! Beatrix is wearing the crappy apron/pinafore/whatever I made a few months ago, but I only just got around to sewing a snap on the back of it the other day. Now it's a Real Boy! (Or whatever.)

well pin a rose on your nose

Made this bottlecap pincushion this morning. I love to make these - I get so much use out of them and they're the perfect size to keep in my floss case - but it had been a while since I made my last one! That pink mushroom pincushion just got me in the mood for pink. Then again, it doesn't take much to do that! I'm making a dusty rose-pink pixie hat right now... and all of my Blythe girls are wearing pink at the moment. Yikes, I'm scaring myself.

Found your drilling equipment the other day.

OMG, do want this mushroom pincushion by Aimee Ray! *o*

Blythe clothes keep coming to me in the mail! Maybe I acquired too much these past couple of weeks?? I'll post pictures when everything's come in!

I've been feeling somewhat immoble these past couple of days, so here's a list of stuff I've been watching:

True Blood
Rewatched much of S1, and every episode with Alcide in it like three times. ALCIDE. I am so over Bill and Eric, and especially Jason who was so endearing last season but so horrible this season. It's all about Alcide.

Eddie Izzard: Unrepeatable
("Cat, are you drilling?" "No, no!") Every now and then you just get in an Eddie Izzard mood!

Cracks
A strange little indie film set in a girls' boarding school in the 1930s, where there's a swim team, drunken secret parties late at night in the dorm rooms, jealousy, competition, and murder. Eva Green and Juno Temple are the stars in this, but for me, I was all about Fiamma (María Valverde)! I hope she stars in more English films! The cinematography was beautiful, reminiscent of 1993's The Secret Garden in more ways than one, but the climax of this movie felt a little off somehow. Still, I liked the atmosphere and María Valverde very much.

On the list to watch:
  • more Eddie Izzard (Definite Article, Glorious)
  • I Love You Phillip Morris
  • D.E.B.S.
  • The Good Guy (I'm not sure about this...)
  • an anime called Umineko no Naku Koro ni, which I understand is a murder mystery! I really miss Maria-sama ga Miteru, so hopefully this will be good too. :(
  • Now to shuffle off and try to do something productive... whilst watching Eddie Izzard. ("No one can live at that speed!")

    Yaaaay Blythe mail roundup!

Got this pink Moxie blouse for Aury. She's been wearing it as a dress though. Gurl can do dat.

I got a white knit cardigan with daisy buttons on it and Beatrix is wearing it right now. (She also attended a concert wearing it.) It's so cute!

I got this dress in the mail today and paired it with some brown capris I got a few days ago from the same person as the white daisy-button cardigan. Plummery just isn't a short dress kind of girl.

I'm expecting a couple more things: two pairs of Mary Janes and another PP dress and a pair of white pants I'm considering altering... more on that if they ever arrive!

    On a different note:

I don't use this shampoo (I'm a little afraid to?? I have super-sensitive skin in general and am always struggling with shampoos that give me eczema flare-ups) but someone in my house does, and I really like the way it smells. It smells like an artificial strawberry-vanilla milkshake made by Hello Kitty in some kind of magic land where everything is pink and creamy.

I ordered some eyechips from Brainworm this morning. I've been meaning to get more for a long time. They're a reward for doing something this week I haven't done in a long time...

    WRITE.

For some reason, I wrote my brains out last year, like at least 100,000 words total (for me, that is a lot, but for Stephen King it is probably nuthin'), and then when I geared down and stopped, I really, really stopped! I haven't written much of anything at all except posts on this blog. When I did write a little, it was a slow process and read like something put through Babelfish from Russian to English.

The stuff I've been writing this week still suffers from that particular issue, but I have been doing timed exercises which force me to write quickly and stop second-guessing myself and judging myself. I've noticed that all of my beginnings are horribly rough, but you've got to start somewhere, right? My brain gets kind of into a groove midway through, but inevitably tires faster than I'm used to. Like all brontosauruses, currently my writing is thin on one end, much, much thicker in the middle, and then thin again at the far end. I am going to have to edit these things soon and I am already dreading it... but I think eyechips will help... yup!

Also, right when I was done ordering them, someone bought a pixie hat from my Etsy shop. IMMEDIATE KARMIC JUSTIFICATION!

The seamstress previously known as Calico has left, traveling arduously across many lands and distant seas to Freya of NaughtyPixie! You and I can keep up with her here on Freya's flickr. Bless the internet :D

I'm so happy that TG found a home and that I get to see what wonderful clothes she and Freya make together. I am a little sad -- how strange it was to see her missing from her spot with the rest of my girls! -- because I actually love TG a lot, but I somehow felt like she was not to be played with and I never found a style that seemed right for her. When I put her up for sale on PP I thought, "If no one buys her, then I know she's meant to stay." But then Freya messaged me and I was thrilled. So I think it worked out for the absolute best and that she's now where she was supposed to be all along! It was fun to have her in my little family for a spell though. All my best, lovely girl.

I have a post on the phenomenon of "bonding" with Blythes that I'm still working on. I have thought about it a lot in the past few months.

But bless Freya, I love her natural-feeling dresses! I bought this one for Plummery on the same day I sent TG to her. One day I will buy one for Aury, then all three of my girls will have NaughtyPixie parties.

Right now Aury is hanging out in her stock hat and DLG's stock dress with the apron-thingie I made by hand. It still needs snaps on the back. The real part that is tickling me, though, are the little striped socks she's got on. Note to self: GET MORE CUTE STRIPED SOCKS!
