springtime sittin' 2: still sittin'

Thursday, March 6, 2025

Last March I posted about coincidentally-Blythe-scale decor furniture from Michael's -- and this year, they have more coincidentally-Blythe-scale tabletop decor furniture! Yay! Look at these!

As you can see, I got the yellow chair in the peacock-esque shape! It's giving vintage rattan, except of course... metal, not rattan. Fey looks so cute in it right now, in her TiredMomKnits dress! I'd really like to snag one of these other ones that looks like a birdcage, but the listing online says it's a couple of inches bigger than the one I got. I'd rather see it in person before getting it, and I didn't see them at my local Michael's.

They also have this dragonfly design, which I did see:

I love this color green for this little furniture! But I don't love the design of this one, I admit!

Gotta say, I hope they'll continue this trend next spring too. It's so fun to get what functions as doll furniture for, like, less than ten bucks a pop.

Here's a little bonus pic of Fey's pullring and mushroom sleepy eyes charm! I believe she's had it for a good ten years now!

mushroom skirt!

Sunday, January 14, 2024

I made another skirt! It's this dark green one with a mushroom print. I saw the fabric, which I really love, and thought it'd make a cute circle skirt for Blythes. For this skirt I relied on this video tutorial/pattern, rather than just kind of winging it, like I did with the last skirt I sewed.

This one has a lot of gathering; I've never successfully gathered anything before, and to be honest, I didn't find it very easy to arrange and settle everything how I wanted it. My skirt did not resemble 1:1 the skirt in the video while it was in progress. But the process was an educational experience, haha.

I would very much enjoy attaining more skirts that are about this length, or a little longer. I recently got one of these from CraftyCoraShop and I really like it; it's long and gives historical dress vibes! (I scooped three more in other colors just now!) Shorter skirts and miniskirts don't always feel right on some of my girls.

I miiigght take another swing at this pattern sometime, with some other fabric?

Between the hat, the top, and the skirt, I made almost this entire outfit!!! :)

mushroom bag!

Sunday, September 18, 2022

Just thought I'd post about this mushroom bag I got from Maobabie! (Direct listing here!)

I saw prototypes for this bag a long time ago on Twitter and waited ages for them to drop! When they did, I became paralyzed with indecision about what color to get. So paralyzed that I never pulled the trigger on getting one. I don't usually spend much on purses. Buuut I finally ended up getting one when they went on sale months later. As you can see, I got the yellow one!

It's not the roomiest bag ever, not gonna lie! I can fit my Switch Lite and phone in it, but not much room remains.

If I have the time to Tetris things out, I can fit all this in it, but I don't really want to have to Tetris on the fly. Especially not in front of people! A woman at the grocery store stared at me as I went through self-check out and was fitting my wallet back into the bag. She said, derisively, "I don't know how you can fit anything in that bag. It's cute, though."

"It's not very practical, is it," said my dad, another time.

I have gotten compliments on it too, though! From a random dude who works at the pharmacy, even. "Is your bag..."

"A mushroom!" I said.

"A mushroom! That's so cute."

So true, bestie, and thank you for refilling my Prozac on this day.

I've been carrying it for a couple of months now and I think it's more of a "going out and socializing, accessorizing a cute dress" purse than a "running daily errands" purse, if that makes sense. A conversation piece, for sure.

Fall, finally!

Wednesday, September 24, 2014

Woke up today to these on the table... made by my little sister. So festive!

I'm so happy it's autumn, all officially and everything. Last night my bestie and I watched Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, which is my big autumnal feels-bringing movie (along with The Rocky Horror Picture Show). I watch it every year and I love it so!!

Feeling like continuing with my ripple... I'm actually into a pink swathe now.

Other stuff of note:
  • Still on my cold shower grind! I'm 21 days into the 30 day challenge.
  • I now have over 100 subscribers on YouTube! What??
  • Faking It is back! Shane remains the best.
  • I'm hanging in there. Are you?

toadstool ornaments

Friday, December 20, 2013

It seems I've started a small collection of toadstool ornaments this year. These go on the big tree, not my pink tree. They're heavy!

Our tree is pretty much dripping with all kinds of ornaments, handmade and gifted and store-bought. My mom collects snowflakes and there are a number of them on our tree, and she also has a second smaller tree that she fills entirely with snowflakes. Before this year, I've never attempted to have my own holiday decor, as we have more than we can even really fit on our tree -- and I like our kitschy hodge-podge.

I feel like I'm gonna need a tag for toadstools on this blog!
